Arab Lake

Arab Facts

Arab Lake is a quaint, isolated lake located just inside the western boundary of Frontenac Provincial Park. It is one of the few lakes in the park that is accessible by car, with only a small portage down to the shore. The lake appears to be a basin surrounded by a homogeneous uphill wooded shoreline, creating a quiet and remote environment. There is no development or campsites along the small circumference, which makes one feel quite removed from the busy camping and cottage region in and around Frontenac Park. It is often overlooked in favour of the larger South Otter and Doe Lakes, but it is well worth the visit… Just make sure you remember where the portage trail is, or you’ll never get back out!

In our analysis of the samples we collected at Arab Lake, we discovered that the zooplankton was dominated by Daphnia and Calanoids.

Temperature and oxygen profile of Arab Lake

Temperature and oxygen profile of Arab Lake

The epilimnetic depth extends from the surface to 3m where the metalimnion layer begins. The metalimniotic depth is between 3m to 6m. Oxygen levels peak at 6m at 12mg/L and this quickly drops to 0mg/L once the hypolimnetic depth is reached. The surface temperature is at 25°C and drops to a minimum of  8°C in the hypolimnetic depth.
